BY ADEYEMI AKANJI, BAUCHI – For summoning courage to declare interest in governing Nigeria, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo is already receiving accolades from groups with strong beliefs that he is the right and best man for the job come 2023 general elections.

Just hours after his declaration of intent, a group under the umbrella, ‘Osinbajo Volunteer Movement’ (OVM) commended Prof Osinbajo for taking the bold step in seeking the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC)’s ticket to contest the presidential poll.

The OVM, which painted the Bauchi metropolis red with the Vice President’s campaign posters, said Nigerians should make no mistake because “Yemi Osinbajo is the right man for the presidency job come 2023.”

The National Publicity Secretary of OVM, Comrade Ibrahim Khalid Angale told journalists in Bauchi on Monday at a rally in honour of the Vice President that they are thrilled by Prof Osinbajo’s decision to finally heed their call and that of many other well meaning individuals and bodies to contest for the country’s highest political office.

According to Angale; “Nigeria needs a leader who is strong physically and intellectually sound to tackle the many challenges facing the country and take governance to the next level of development.

“We are very happy over the official declaration by the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo to contest for the office of the president come 2023. We are supporting him because he is mentally fit, has expectational leadership qualities and possess the technical know-how to transform this nation.

“The Vice-president has been part of this government for the past seven years, he is not a novice when it comes to affairs of this country. He is conversant with the numerous challenges facing Nigeria today.

“We are expecting him to consolidate on the work already done by President Muhammadu Buhari and this is the reason we are registering our support for him”.

The OVM’s Spokesperson assured that all the states in the North-East will continue sustained support mobilization for Osinbajo’s presidential aspiration in order to keep the APC alive, even after the tenure of President Buhari.

Amid heightened speculations in the public space, the Vice President had early on Monday morning officially declared his interest in the APC presidential primaries for the ticket to run in the 2023 presidential race.

The declaration came through in a short broadcast shared via his verified Twitter handle after months of intense speculations and pressure from Nigerians.
