BY ADEYEMI AKANJI, BAUCHI – Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir says extensive consultations with critical stakeholders across the country are ongoing to determine his aspiration for the Nigerian Presidency come the year 2023.

He said the seal of approval from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bauchi State chapter notwithstanding, wider engagement is required before the project can fully take off.

The governor, who expressed gratitude that different groups are urging him to declare interest in the presidency, said; “Just as I told the Northern Youths Leaders Forum (NYLF) when they came with the same call, I will keep consulting until we reach a consensus. Thereafter, I will make a definite public pronouncement on the issue”.

Governor Bala made this known when a Coalition of groups, including the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), National Union of Bauchi State Students (NUBASS), Bauchi State Traders and Artisans Associations, and Association of Achaba and Keke NAPEPS, visited him at Government House, Bauchi to present a letter of endorsement to him as President Muhammadu Buhari’s successor.

He disclosed that consultations on the project commenced on a wider scale a few weeks back following his endorsement by NYLF, adding that the State Working Committee of PDP has already given him their ‘nod’.

The governor, who reiterated his contentment with the position of Governor, said it will however be a rare privilege to serve the country in any capacity depending on the support of the populace across the country.

According to him, aside from engaging PDP stakeholders at all levels, the consultations will extend to traditional rulers and clerics before a final pronouncement is made on his aspiration.

“Some of you saw me last week going round to meet former Ministers, Senators, and other leaders to discuss it. But I have to consult traditional rulers and Ulamas and other religious Clerics too because I need their support”, Governor Bala said.

Speaking earlier, the coalition leader and State Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Adamu Dimis said their endorsement was based on his impressive performance in terms of the numerous projects executed in the state within the last few years.

Noting that Nigeria needs the likes of Governor Bala to record the desired developments through purposeful leadership like the one he is offering in the state, Dimis said the country can get better with him as the President, adding that the Coalition is endorsing for the nation’s number one political office given his outstanding credentials as a Civil Servant, Senator, and Minister before becoming a Governor.

“We have followed your progression in life and found out that you are indeed a committed person who thinks about the generality of the people. We are therefore calling on you to declare your presidential aspiration for 2023”, the Coalition said in its letter of endorsement.
