BY SEGUN ADEBAYO – Ahead of the 2023 general elections, Nigeria’s political actors and leaders have again been warned to shun the ‘do or die’ brand of politics gradually enveloping the polity.
The warning comes from the Spiritual Father and Chairman, Cherubim and Seraphim Movement Church Worldwide AYO NI O Baba Aladura, Prophet Samuel Adefila Abidoye who said the win-at-all-cost syndrome must be jettisoned by all stakeholders in the overall interest and peace of Nigeria.
Addressing newsmen at the International Headquarters of the Church, Galilee Land, Orile Igbon, Abidoye urged politicians to always play politics by the rules rather than promoting senseless killings, kidnapping, thuggery, and character assassination of their opponents.
The respected Clergy was speaking against the backdrop of reported violence and killings trailing political parties’ primaries to pick their flagbearers for next year’s polls.
He, therefore, charged leaders and politicians to prioritize developing their various communities, immediate constituencies, and the entire country above personal ambitions and self-serving agenda.
According to him; “The well-being of the masses; how the Nation’s economy will grow; and the citizens able to live happily, should be your uttermost goal rather than going after your perceived political opponent because you want power at all cost.”
Prophet Abidoye said it is important for politicians to always accept defeat with understanding and work with those victorious at elections to move the country forward for peace and progress.
Stressing that there is no gain in hiring assassination squads, hoodlums, or kidnappers to go after political opponents, the Cleric said Nigeria deserves a peaceful and hitch-free election in 2023.
He urged the electorate to go for the Permanent Voters Card (PVC) preparatory to vote for their preferred candidate during the forthcoming elections, adding; “Please, participate in all the political processes for you to vote for the candidate of your choice without any compromise or sentiments.”
