The San Mamés Stadium in Bilbao, Spain will host the 2024/25 all-English Europa League finals between Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday, 21st May 2025.

United and Spurs enjoyed an impressive Thursday night football as they effortlessly strolled past their semi-finals’ opposition.

While the Ruben Amorim’s men triumphed 7-1 on aggregate against Athletic Bilbao, the Coach Ange Postecoglou-tutored Spurs also made light work of Norwegian side, Bodoe/Glimt, with a 5-1 aggregate scoreline to reach the final.

For the Red Devils, after falling behind in the 36th minute from a wonderful strike by Mikel Jauregizar following a shaky defending inside Old Trafford, second half substitute Mason Mount scored incredible double while Rasmus Hojlund and Casemiro also join the goal party as the Red Devils sealed a comeback victory over Athletic Club.

Mount, the almost forgotten £60m midfielder, set United on their way to the Europa League final with the first strike in an emphatic 4-1 comeback victory on the night

For Spurs, Dominic Solanke and Pedro Porro scored against Bodo/Glimt to wrap up a comfortable 2-0 win for embattled Ange Postecoglou

It was indeed a solid away victory in Norway for the North London side as they keep hopes of silverware alive following an absolutely disastrous Premier League season.

So come May 21, the kick-off time for this year’s final is 21:00 CET and the Bilbao Stadium, home to Athletic Club, has a capacity in excess of 50,000 fans.

Last year, the Stadium hosted the 2024 UEFA Women’s Champions League final, in which FC Barcelona were 2-0 winners against Olympique Lyon.

Opened in September 2013, the stadium replaced the old San Mamés, its predecessor, which hosted the second leg of the 1977 UEFA Cup final, with Athletic Club beating Juventus 2-1 on the night but losing on away goals. It also played host to three games at the 1982 FIFA World Cup in Spain.

Of interest is the fact that the Europa League final follows a similar format to the UEFA Champions League final. If scores are level at the end of normal time, two 15-minute periods of extra time are played.

If one of the teams scores more goals than the other during extra time, that team are declared the winners. If scores remains level after extra time, the winners are determined by a penalty shoot-out.

Winners Take Home Package
The UEFA Europa League trophy is, at 15kg, the heaviest piece of UEFA silverware. To make things extra interesting, it also has no handles.

The 2024/25 winners will also gain a place in the league phase of the 2025/26 UEFA Champions League, if they have not qualified via their domestic competition.

Additionally, they will earn the right to play against the winners of the 2024/25 Champions League in the 2025 UEFA Super Cup.
