In a shocking admission that has cast doubts in the transparency by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) in the conduct of its examinations, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, the Registrar of the Board, has accepted responsibility for the flaws that marred the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

Prof Oloyede, told journalists at a press briefing on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, that JAMB failed to deliver a flawless examination process in spite of its extensive preparations.

The JAMB boss, Prof Oloyede therefore announced that affected candidates will be required to retake their examinations.

The development marked one of the most significant self-indictments in the history of JAMB, thereby raising concerns about accountability, reliability, and the integrity of one of Nigeria’s most important examinations.

An emotional Oloyede said; “As the Registrar of JAMB, I hold myself personally responsible, especially for the negligence of the service provider”.

He noted that all necessary measures were taken ahead of the exams, but the system still faltered, adding that the Board shall put all the machineries in in place.

Oloyede while fighting back tears, said; “Regardless, there were still errors”.

The outrage over the conduct of the 2025 UTME Examination affected many candidates in different examination centres across Lagos and the South East, where technical glitches and disruptions marred the process.

JAMB has however not announced a new date for the rescheduled exams even as public pressure is mounting for a comprehensive investigation and overhaul of the UTME administration process.
