Former Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi has declared that the All Progressives Congress has completely lost its vision, direction, and seriously drifted from of its founding ideals.
Fayemi, a founding member of the APC, warned that the the reliance on consensus politics by the party, is fueling internal crisis ahead of 2027.
Speaking on State Affairs with Edmund Obilo, Fayemi, criticized what he described as a lack of debate and intellectual engagement within the APC, stressing that the preference for consensus in primaries clearly undermines democratic practice.
He noted that the adoption of consensus was certainly not where the APC came from, and insisted the party has lost its bearing and the vision of its founding fathers.
Fayemi noted that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, even though a founding father of the APC, appeared totally consumed by the pressures of governance.
He said that he does not see the sense in the adoption of consensus which is more of an imposition, saying that he thinks the leadership of the party just agreed with Tinubu on consensus without a robust debate and analysis over its merits and demerits.
Fayemi therefore warned that the trend of party members running to Aso Rock for favours and endorsements poses a danger to the APC as a party.
In the words of Fayemi; “It would be unfortunate if everybody is running to Aso Rock because they want something. Those who don’t get consensus won’t be happy”.
He said it is as if the ruling party is waiting for an implosion.
