Following coordinated and sustained pressure from stakeholders in the North-Central geo-political zone of the country, the National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has resigned from his exalted position.

It was gathered that as part of the measures of the Party to get the needed support of the North Central zone, the Party leadership and other key stakeholders counseled on the need to follow the zoning configuration of the party in accordance with the resolution of the National convention.

However, another source within the Party told Forefront News that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is working hard to get the presidential candidate of the New Nigerian Peoples Party NNPP), Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso return to the APC, but that would be difficult to actualize if Ganduje continues to remain as the National Chairman of the Party.

The source further said that it is clear to President Tinubu that Kwankwaso seems to be more on ground and in control of the votes of Kano people as compared to Ganduje, whose popularity has seriously dwindled in the State.

According to the insider source; “While it is true that there has been pressure to return the position back to the North Central, the real underlying factor is the fact that Kano State is strategic to Tinubu and the APC in 2027.

“Afterall, Ganduje has held the position for almost two years and heavens did not fall, but the political calculation ahead of 2027 has to be deliberate and intentional.

“The most important thing is the fact that Ganduje has agreed to resign in the party’s interest ahead of 2027, even though, there is nothing he can really do about it. He also needs some rest as age is not really on his side.

Ganduje, a former governor of Kano State, was appointed by President Tinubu as National chairman of the APC in August 2023 following the forced resignation of the former holder of the office, Senator Abdullahi Adamu from the North-Central. politician.

The appointment of Ganduje by President Tinubu in August 2023 drew so much objection and criticism from party stakeholders who viewed it as a breach of the APC’s zoning arrangement.

It was also gathered that one of the party’s national vice chairmen most likely the one overssing the affairs of the Party in the North Central zone may assume the office of National chairman in acting capacity pending the election of a substantive chairman at the scheduled national convention slated for December 2025.
