Former Chief Press Secretary to Governor Samuel Ortom, Mr Nathaniel Ikyur has urged the few privileged people in the society to always consider the poor, needy, sick and those in internally displaced persons (IDPs) camps who have no hope.
Ikyur noted that the state of poverty across Benue state requires leadership that is built on compassion, stressing that people who seek to mock the vulnerable rather than elevate and encourage them have no business in leadership and should be shown the way out.
Ikyur, a House of Representatives aspirant for the Gboko/Tarka Federal Constituency on the platform of the opposition Peoples Democratic party (PDP) in Benue state, who stated these while speaking with journalists in Makurdi to mark the season of love, appealed to the people of the state to show more love and care to one another.
He said that more than ever, the people of Benue state must resolve to show kindness to one another, giving the state of squalor and uncertainty occasioned by intolerant disposition of the leadership in the state.
Ikyur, who was also a media aide to former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, commended the people of Benue state have to endure political intolerance and intimidation in the last two years.
He said the development calls for a sobber reflection on all and sundry as the nation march towards the next election circle.
Ikyur further said that there is the need now for the leadership in the state to specially and wholesomely embrace building the youth for Benue’s inevitable tomorrow.
The former Spokesman to the immediate past Governor of Benue State, insisted that leaders who do not care about the welfare of their people have not only offended them, but have also shown greater disrespect and flagrant abuse of the mandates they hold in trust, thus must not be rewarded with another tenure in office.
