A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olabode George, has stated that the actions of Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, are undermining the internal order of the Party and aggravating tensions.
Chief George. A former Deputy National Chairman of the PDP pointedly accused Wike of operating outside the party’s established framework.
He specifically accused Wike of openly collaborating with the interests in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in order to destabilise the PDP which made him politically.
George, who stated these when he featured on Arise Television programme on Friday, noted that while a Board of Trustees member like Wike cannot be summarily removed, he however, said that the party still possessed mechanisms to address infractions.
He said that Wike was acting without restraint, stressing the FCT Minister’s antagonistic approach has seriously fueled instability within the PDP.
In the words of George; “Wike seems like a loose cannon within the party, and there are clear signs that he is cooperating with the APC to weaken us. Such behavior contradicts the collective responsibility expected of party leaders”.
George noted that the PDP’s internal governance is dictated by its constitution, which vests authority in the National Executive Committee (NEC) which is subordinated only to the national convention.
The PDP Chieftain said that all the committees set up by the party, including the reconciliation efforts led by former President of the Senate, Dr. Bukola Saraki, are mandated to report back to the NEC.
George expressed serious concern over the NEC’s extended period without meeting, attributing it to internal procedural issues, specifically disputes related to the party secretary’s gubernatorial ambition without resignation.
He said that the vacuum contributed significantly to the disorder the PDP is experiencing, adding however, that the issues have now been resolved.
The PDP Chieftain said; “Our Party NEC meeting is scheduled for July 23. Wike’s conduct will be a topic for discussion at the upcoming NEC meeting.
“The NEC meeting will enable the party to reassert its internal discipline and recommit to its core principles in preparation for the 2027 general elections,” he asserted.
