A chieftain of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Mr Buba Galadima, has boasted that the Party would play a decisive role in the 2027 presidential election.
Galadima particularly said that Kano people led by the NNPP will determine who will be Nigeria’s President come 2027, declaring that there is no way that the former governor of Kano State, Rabiu Kwankwaso can align with President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
Galadima, who stated these when he featured on Channels Television programme; ‘Politics Today’ on Monday, pointedly said that the Tinubu presidency maltreated both Kwankwaso and the NNPP in Kano.
This is as he also accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of deliberately orchestrating crisis and worsening the tension in Kano City with its backing of the ousted Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, despite his removal by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
He said; “How can Kwankwaso be a friend of the APC with what they are doing to us in Kano? Appointing two emirs in one town? There is a legally appointed Emir by the State Government and a Federal Government emir.
“Who has the responsibility of appointing emirs and who pays their salaries? The Federal Government has stationed not less than 40 pickup vehicles filled with mobile police to protect Ado Bayero, while insecurity persisted in other parts of the state.
“In some localities in Kano, they are killing people and taking their handsets, and the police are tied down. Are they not ashamed?” he asked.
Galadima described Kwankwaso as “the strongest political Iroko in the country today,” emphasising that Kwankwaso has outmanoeuvred the APC in Kano, adding that the battle over the Kano emirate has shaped political alliances in recent years.
Galadima accused the Federal Government of meddling in a purely traditional matter which is purely a State matter, stressing that a Federal High Court has no business whatsoever in delivering judgment in a chieftaincy matter.
He said that it was curious that the same President Tinubu, who once lobbied for Sanusi’s appointment, is now backing another person contrary to the provisions of the law, stressing that no emir had ever determined the outcome of a national election.
Galadima insisted that Kwankwaso’s next move could either solidify Tinubu’s grip on power or tilt the scales against him in 2027.
