A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Kola Ologbondiyan, has declared that if opposition political parties put aside their difference and unite, they would mount a credible formidable challenge to President Bola Tinubu in 2027.
Ologbondiyan, who is Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the National Chairman of ADC, Senator David Mark, said that a grand alliance of opposition parties ahead of 2027 is feasible.
He referenced the Ibadan meeting of opposition parties, saying that he strongly believes that the decision reached by the majority of the opposition parties was that, at the nick of time, they were going to pull together…
In the words of Ologbondiyan; “I believe that the opposition political parties are going to realign and work in the direction of rescuing our nation from the path of perdition.
“On Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso leaving the ADC coalition in May, my reading was that the decision was arrived at in a hurry because there was no point reached in the discussion to arrive at the position of leaving the alliance.
“The door is not closed. I don’t want to say or hold on to the notion that that decision is dead. I believe that if the opposition political parties are determined to rescue this nation, the best approach is for all opposition political parties to pull together,” he stated.
Commenting on what differentiates the ADC from the rulong All Progressives Congress (APC), Ologbondiyan said the coalition stands for democracy and is completely opposed to one-man rule.
He further said; “The ADC has a vision of working with Nigerians to bring about a government that will work only in the interests of Nigerians. It is only the ADC that can clearly say that it stands for democracy and is completely opposed to one-man rule”.
Ologbondiyan pointedly accused the Presidency of working to destroy democracy by allegedly targeting opposition parties, stressing that the real opponents of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu are the Nigerian people who are experiencing excruciating pains and hardships.
He further said; “I think the President sees the issue of 2027 as one between him and the opposition political parties. The answer to that is no. I think the issue is between Mr President and Nigerians who are suffering, who are hungry, who have no money in their pockets.
“The facts speak for themselves. You don’t need to tell Nigerians anything. That their lives are better today? The answer is no… Nigerians are already telling themselves what they are passing through and what they are suffering,” he stressed.
Ologbondiyan explained that the most important goal for now is stopping the Tinubu administration through the ballot and how to rebuild the country using every democratic means to stop the sufferings from continuing.
