BY ADEYEMI AKANJI, BAUCHI – The People’s Redemption Party (PRP), on Monday, May 25, 2026 adopted Senator Shehu Buba Umar, who joined the party few days ago as its Governorship candidate for the 2027 general elections.
Senator Buba Umar representing Bauchi South Senatorial district at the National Assembly, on Sunday, announced his resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC) citing the absence of internal democracy, lack of fairness, marginalization of genuine party members, and increasing disregard for the opinions and aspirations of grassroots supporters.
Senator Buba Umar was elected Gubernatorial candidate of the PRP few days after he joined the party having dumped the APC in protest.
The primary election of the PRP was conducted through voice affirmation at a special delegates congress during which other candidates for the various elective offices were also affirmed.
The primary election was conducted and supervised by National Vice Chairman, North of the party, Haruna Buhari, who declared all the aspirants as winners through voice votes affirmation.
Buhari declared; “Senator Shehu Buba Umar, having fulfilled all requirements of the law and constitution of the PRP and the electoral guidelines, I, Haruna Buhari, hereby declare Senator Shehu Buba Umar as the duly elected gubernatorial candidate of the PRP for the 2027 general election”.
The PRP National Vice Chairman congratulated the gubernatorial candidate, saying that he was the right choice for the party as he has the capability to win elections at any time.
Speaking in turn, the State Chairman of the party, Abdulraham Muazu, said that the PRP is positioned to spring surprises in the 2027 general elections in the State.
Muazu stressed that the Party was lucky to have Senator Shehu Buba Umar as its gubernatorial candidate considering his political acumen and dexterity as a serving Senator.
He added that though it was not yet time for electioneering campaign, the party is ready to face the electorate in Bauchi State for votes in the 2027 general election.
In his acceptance speech, the gubernatorial candidate, Senator Buba Umar thanked the PRP for giving him the platform to aspire for the seat of the Governor come 2027.
Umar announced that he has collapsed his entire political structure into the PRP having obtained the full membership from his ward in Toro LGA.
He expressed optimism that with the backing and support of the card-carrying members of the PRP coupled with the teeming support of other well wishers from across the State, he will win the gubernatorial election.
Umar called on youths, women, and members of the party to immediately swing into action by embarking on door-to-door enlightenment and educate people on the ideals of the PRP.
During the Congress, the Committee Chairman presented all the 31 candidates for the State House of Assembly who were affirmed one after the other to the delegates.
