The Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti, on Sunday, June 8, 2025, cautioned political actors against the permutations over 2027 general elections, stressing that it is akin to playing God.
Governor Otti, who gave the caution when he received in audience, the former governor of the State, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu and Senator Chris Adighijie, who represented Abia Central in the Senate of the National Assembly, admonished public office holders to concentrate on serving the people, stressing that it was too early to begin to talk and plan for another election when there are two years to go.
Otti said; “Such calculations are premature and misplaced, because there is no guarantee that anyone will live till that time”.
A statement by Ukoha Njoku Ukoha, Media Aide to Governor Otti, quoted the Abia Governor as having said that the primary concern for elected officials should be to deliver on their mandate and allow God to decide the future.
Otti further said; “People, in 2025, are talking about 2027. You can’t even talk about 2027 because there is no guarantee that you will go beyond 2025.
“Who are you to begin to talk about 2027? Today is somewhat certain. Tomorrow is a promise. Next tomorrow is gambling. Let us talk about today, and when tomorrow comes, and if we are lucky to be part of it, we can hold the discussion,” he counselled.
Otti however, assured that he will continue to lend his support and understanding to President Tinubu owing to the bold and well-intentioned economic reforms he is undertaking.
He also commended Tinubu for his courage and sincerity in removing petroleum products subsidies, saying; “When you talk about supporting President Tinubu, the President and I are very good friends, and our relationship predates party politics and current positions.
“We tend to agree on so many issues, and as it is natural, we know where we disagree. But, when you talk about the economy, what Mr President is doing has always been my position for a long time,” he said.
Earlier, Senator Kalu said that their visit was to appreciate the Governor for the good job he is doing in Abia State and to also encourage him.
