Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has declared that he will remain in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on which platform he was elected as the fifth civilian governor of the State.
Lawal specifically said that he is a politician of conscience thus, would not abandon the political party that gave him the ticket to contest the governorship election and won in 2023 for another.
This was as he said that he remains a true believer in God, stressing that whatever God has destined to happen shall happen, no matter the party he belongs.
The Governor who stated these while responding to the overtures from his predecessor and current Minister of State for Defence, Hon Bello Matawalle, who tasked him to join the All Progressives Congress (APC), said that considered it inappropriate to take a mandate of the PDP to another party that was not voted for, a development he considered immoral.
A statement by Mustafa Kaura, Special Assistant on Media and Communications to the Governor of Zamfara State, noted that some people have been spreading rumours that Governor Dauda Lawal is planning to dump the PDP for the APC.
In the words of Lawal; “There is no iota of truth in this. As such, I want the PDP supporters to disregard this. I will remain in the PDP and I have no intention of joining any other party.
Matawalle, had in a statement on Sunday, June 8, 2025, by the former Commissioner for Information, Alhaji Ibrahim Dosara, called on Governor Lawal to join the APC.
The minister urged Lawal to join the progressives for the progress of the state, and tasked him to come out in the open and join the APC, instead of sneaking around.
In the words of Matawalle; “Dauda Lawal should come and join the APC rather than the hide-and-seek type of game he is currently playing”.
