312 Dead LG Pensioners Uncovered in Bauchi Payroll
BY ADEYEMI AKANJI, BAUCHI – No fewer than 312 dead pensioners drawing about N10 million as monthly pension have been discovered in Bauchi State.
This is just as another nine other dead persons were also discovered on the nominal and payroll of the state government with a monthly payment of N234,521. 91.
Special Adviser on Civil Service matters, Abdon Dalla Gin, who announced these while briefing journalists, said that the discovery was made through the implementation Committee report of Bank Verification Number (BVN) Authentication in respect of the 41,448 civil servants on government’s payroll.
Gin said that 15 civil servants were also discovered through their July to September, 2019 bank statements to be collecting double salaries from the payroll of the government and other Organizations, adding that they will face disciplinary action.
He further said that three civil servants were discovered through the July to September 2019 bank statements to be collecting salaries from the state and N-Power programme, saying that the Head of Service will discipline them in accordance with the law.
Gin also said the government will appoint a team of experts to review the pre-service scheme policy in order to avoid waste and ensure financial prudency, adding that 396 employees, comprising of 112 state and 284 local government civil servants, including PEAS and PHCS, were not cleared by the committee due to death, overage, failure to appear for physical verification or abscondment with a monthly value of N20 million.
Gin said that 23 state and local government staff were disengaged and removed from the payroll of the government for illegal replacement, adding that it cost the government the sum of N669,479,57 monthly.
He also said that the committee further discovered and removed from the payroll 83 local government staff who had exited the service, but active on the payroll, costing the government N3.5 million monthly.
