A 43-year-old man, identified as Kazeem, was alleged to had gotten high on a substance known as Colorado (Colos) in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, on Friday, June 6, 2025 shortly after returning from Eid prayer ground and reportedly jumped into a well and died before he could be rescued.
The Kwara State Fire Service which was later invited to the scene of the incident, retrieved Kazeem’s body from the domestic well in Ile Alapo, Edun area of Ilorin and handed over the remains of the victim to Inspector Babatunde Amos of the C Division Police Station, Ilorin.
Mr Hassan Adekunle, Public Relations Officer of the Kwara State Fire Service, while confirming the incident, explained that the service received a distress call at approximately 10:29 am, that a man had fallen into a well.
According to Adekunle; “The victim, identified as Kazeem, reportedly jumped into the well under the influence of a hard substance known as ‘Colos’ (Colorado) shortly after returning from Eid prayers.
He said that the Ministry would be given the formal identification and claim of the body by the victim’s family immediately after the Sallah public holidays.
While admonishing residents of the State to stay away from drug abuse, the director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Mr Falade John Olumuyiwa, expressed deep sadness over the incident, stressing that such acts often lead to tragic outcomes.
