…Gives Tinubu 48 hours to reverse the increase

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has described the 50% increase in calls and data costs by telcos operators in the country as approved by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), as “unlawful”.

SERAP therefore issued President Bola Ahmed Tinubu with a 48-hour ultimatum within which to reverse the recent 50% hike in telecom tariffs or it would be left with no choice than to seek legal redress in court if the 50% tariff hike is not reversed within 48 hours.

It specifically said that the Tinubu administration and telcos must immediately reverse the “unlawful” increase in calls and data costs.

SERAP pointedly warned of an impending legal action if the government and telecom operators in the country failed to reverse the decision.

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) on Monday, January 20, 2025, announced its approval of a 50% adjustment in tariffs, saying it was to address rising operational costs in the telecom sector.
