8 Killed, 12 Injured In Enugu Multiple Auto Crashes
BY RAPH ONYEKACHUKWU, ENUGU – The Enugu State police command said eight persons have been confirmed dead in a multiple auto crashes that occurred at Ebe/Egede, along Enugu/Markudi road and Nike Lake road axis of Trans Ekulu by White House in Enugu state.
Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Ebere Amaraiu said in statement on Wednesday that while the accident along Enugu/Markudi road occurred at about 8 am on Monday claimed seven lives with 12 injured; the one along Nike Lake road claimed one life.
According to Amaraiu, the accidents involved three vehicles; a Mercedes Benz truck with registration number AA 365 ARD with one MAN Diesel truck with registration number XA 828 PKN and a Toyota Bus No YD 282.
The PPRO said a total of 22 people were involved in the accident with the remains of the dead and those injured taken to the hospital for necessary action.
He stated that the deceased have been deposited at the Eastern Nigeria Medical Centre’s mortuary, while investigations have commenced into the cause of the accidents.
Meanwhile, operatives of Trans Ekulu police division have prevented what the Police spokesman said would have sparked-off serious crisis in the town when an irate mob went after a commercial vehicle, threatening to set it on fire for allegedly crushing a man to death at Nike Lake road axis of Trans Ekulu by White House.
He said a Toyota Hiace bus, with registration number AFK 249 XA, conveying passengers to the outskirts of Enugu at about 4pm on Tuesday, july 3, 2017 allegedly lost control and crushed a pedestrian, one Chukwu, identified as an artisan within the area to death.
An eyewitness told Forefront News that “The incident angered many sympathizes, who mobilized in their numbers to set the vehicle ablaze in protest, before a team of policemen arrived the scene to restore sanity and prevent the crisis from spiralling out of control, especially given the large number of petrol stations around that axis of the state”.
