AAAG Elects AGF Ogunjimi Deputy Chairperson

BY COBHAM NSA – The Accountant General of the Federation, Mr. Shamseldeen Babatunde Ogunjimi, has been elected Deputy Chairperson of the Executive Committee of the African Association of Accountants General (AAAG).

The election, which took place during the Association’s Annual General Meeting (AGM), held in Accra, Ghana, on 28th July 2025, was attended by Accountants General from AAAG Member countries.

A statement by Bawa Mokwa, Director, Press and Public Relations, Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF), said, “Nigeria’s election to this high-ranking position reflects the confidence and esteem with which peers across Africa regard Mr Ogunjimi and the nation’s commitment to fiscal transparency.

According to the statement, as Deputy Chairperson, Mr. Ogunjimi will play a pivotal role in advancing the AAAG’s mission, while also supporting efforts to promote innovative Public Financial Management (PFM) systems.

Other areas of focus include strengthening public sector accounting and fostering collaboration among member nations.

The AAAG is a Pan-African body comprising the Offices of the Accountants General from across the continent. With a current membership strength covering 22 countries, the Association is mandated to promote leadership and excellence in PFM through sound accounting practices and transparent reporting systems.

The body, established in July 2023 under the guidance of the African Union Commission (AUC), aims to introduce continental perspectives to PFM reforms in Africa.

Importantly, the AAAG seeks to improve accountability, enhance transparency, and strengthen the effective management of public finances across the continent.
