Abba Kyari’s Body Arrives Abuja For Burial
- Private funeral prayers
- Interment at Gudu cemetery
- Strict observance of NCDC’s protocols

BY EDMOND ODOK, ABUJA – The body of late Chief of Staff (CoS) to the President, Mallam Abba Kyari, has been flown into Abuja, Nigeria’s capital this morning preparatory for his burial according to Islamic rites
Reports from the Presidency said the body was received at the Nnamdi International Airport, Abuja by senior officials of the administration.
It was gathered that the body of late Kyari would be interred at the Gudu cemetery, Apo District. Abuja, Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The President’s Chief of Staff died in a Lagos hospital on Friday, April 17, 2020 from complications related to the deadly coronavirus (COVID-19).
Members of the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 would be fully involved in the burial ceremony to ensure compliance with rules for burying coronavirus victims.
Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, who confirmed the arrival of the body in Abuja said, “We just received the body of Abba Kyari the deceased Chief of Staff to the President in Abuja.
“In strict observation of the protocol put in place for the burial of Coronavirus victims by the @NCDCgov and the Federal Ministry of Health, the funeral prayer and burial will be private.
“Thereafter, there will be no such ceremonies as condolence visits.
“Well meaning friends, family members and the general public are encouraged to pray for the repose of Abba Kyari’s soul.”
“May Allah grant the family and nation the fortitude to bear the loss”, the presidential aide said.
Presidency sources also hinted that a few staff have been directed to assemble at Defence House for prayers before the body is committed to mother earth.
