The military, Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), Police and other have secured the release of 20 kidnapped prospective NYSC Corps members and one civilian.
The release of the Corpers was carried out through an intelligence-led operation in Imo State.
Freedom on Wednesday, October 7, 2026 came the way of the 20 prospective National Youth Service Corps members and another person that were abducted along the Owerri-Onitsha Road in Imo State.
The 20 NYSC Corps members and the additional victim were kidnapped by gunmen while travelling to their State of deployment for mobilization for the national service.
The ugly incident expectedly triggered uproar that led to security operations aimed at securing their release.
Security sources disclosed that the freed victims were immediately taken to the Department of State Services (DSS) Hospital in Owerri for medical attention and necessary checks.
The release of the Corps members comes days after their abduction, which had raised concerns over the safety of prospective corps members travelling to their places of deployment.
