BY COBHAM NSA – The Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) has clinched the prestigious 2026 Pillar of Integrity in Public Service Award, cementing its reputation as a benchmark for ethics, transparency and accountability in Nigeria’s public sector.
The honour follows the Corporation’s stellar performance in the 2025 Ethics and Integrity Compliance Scorecard (EICS), where the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) ranked it second overall nationwide. The EICS is a rigorous integrity-assessment framework designed by the ICPC to weed out corruption and drive ethical standards across public institutions.
The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the NDIC, Mr. Thompson Oludare Sunday, bagged the recognition award at the 2026 Verbatim Awards, organised by Verbatim Print & Broadcast Limited in partnership with the ICPC. He was represented by NDIC’s Head of Communication and Public Affairs, Ms. Hawwau Gambo.
At the heart of this national evaluation is a robust accountability framework designed to measure the efficiency of Federal Government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs). across four key areas of Institutional Management Culture and Structure; Financial Transparency and Management System; Administrative Systems Efficiency; and active Anti-Corruption Initiatives.
Speaking on the critical role of ethics in governance, the ICPC Chairman, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, (SAN), delivered a stirring keynote presentation, aptly titled “The Power of Integrity in National Development: Strengthening Public Institutions, Restoring Trust and Driving Prosperity”.
Dr Aliyu, who was represented by Mr. Olusegun Adigun, Director of the Systems Study and Review Department (SSRD), said the current situation in the nation’s development process demands that every well-meaning citizen must be part of the rallying cry for public sector accountability and transparent governance.
Proudly accepting the honor, NDIC Managing Director and Chief Executive, Mr. Thompson O. Sunday, appreciated Verbatim Print & Broadcast Limited for recognising the Corporation, emphasizing that the award is a testament of their dedication, backed by the unassailable credibility of its independent integrity scorecard.
Mr Thompson, who spoke through his representative at the Award ceremony, Head of Communication and Public Affairs, Ms. Hawwau Gambo, reaffirmed the Corporation’s commitment to sustaining the highest standards of transparency, accountability and ethical governance in the discharge of its mandates of deposit guarantee, bank supervision (in collaboration with the CBN), failure resolution and bank liquidation.
According to Ms Gambo, the award was a reflection of the Corporation’s sustained efforts to maintaining the confidence of stakeholders in the discharge of its mandates, assuring that the NDIC will not relent in protecting depositors, engendering confidence in the banking sector and contributing to financial system stability.
She said the recognition is not only an affirmation of NDIC’s achievements, but also an impetus to further deepen compliance with the highest standards of professionalism, excellence and public trust in its mandate delivery
