Troops of the 63 Brigade, Nigerian Army, have rescued a senior officer, Major M.D. Josiah, who was abducted in the early hours of Monday, September 8, 2025 by gunmen in his lodge Bomadi, Delta State on Monday.
It was gathered that dare devil gunmen forced their way into the lodge of the military officer at about 2.00am and took him away in a car as other guests watched helplessly.
The car used by the gunmen was later abandoned along the way and the abductors disappeared with the military officer.
A statement by the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 63 Brigade, Captain Iliyasu Bawa Rijau, said the operation was carried out on Tuesday, following intelligence gathering and close collaboration with community leaders and residents of Bomadi.
Captain Rijau said that the synergy, enabled troops to track the abductors and rescued the officer at Tuomor Waterside in Bomadi Local Government Area.
The Army Brigade spokesperson however, said that Major Josiah sustained gunshot wounds during the operation, but has since been evacuated to a medical facility, where he is receiving adequate treatment and care.
The commander of 63 Brigade, Nigerian Army/Sector 1, Joint Task Force South South, Operation DELTA SAFE, Brigadier General M.A. Shonibare, lauded the courage, tactical skills, and professionalism of the troops that executed the operation.
General Shonibare assured the public that the Nigerian Army remains unwavering in its commitment to maintaining peace and security across Delta State and the wider South-South region.
The commander particularly extended deep appreciation to the people of Bomadi Local Government Area for their cooperation and support, which he described as a demonstration of growing trust and partnership between the Nigerian Army and local communities in combating criminal activities.
Shonibare noted that the success of the rescue operation underlined the Army’s capacity to respond swiftly and decisively to security challenges.
The commander reaffirmed the resolve of the Nigerian Army to protect the lives and property of all citizens.
