Abdussalam Gwarzo, Ex-Dep Gov Emerges As NDC 2027 Governorship Candidate For Kano

Former Deputy Governor of Kano State, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, on Friday, May 29, 2026, emerged as the Governorship candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The emergence of Abdussalam Gwarzo marked a significant milestone in the NDC’s preparations for the 2027 general elections.

The emergence of Gwarzo as the Governorship candidate of the NDC was announced on Friday by Ibrahim Garba Shuaibu, spokesperson to the former deputy governor, who said that the Governorship flag bearer will be formally affirmed alongside other NDC candidates during the party’s scheduled affirmation ceremony.

Shuaibu said the event will also feature the affirmation of the party’s candidates for the State and National Assemblies, governorship, and presidential elections.

The statement said that Gwarzo brings to the contest decades of public service and political experience having served as Deputy Governor of Kano State and was elected twice as a local government chairman.

Gwarzo was also a commissioner who served in four different ministries in Kano State, where he contributed to policy formulation and implementation across key sectors and also served as a member of the National Assembly Service Commission as well as Chairman, Governing Board of the Federal College of Education, Kontagora.

The NDC Governorship flag bearer for Kano State with an extensive record in public administration and grassroots leadership, earned him recognition as one of Kano’s most experienced political figures.

Shuaibi stated that Gwarzo’s emergence as the NDC governorship candidate is expected to bolster the party’s campaign efforts and strengthen its position ahead of the elections.
