…Tells VDM, ‘enough is enough’
Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has warned social media activist, Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), over what he described as repeated disrespect toward his father and the office of the President.
Seyi noted that the attacks, insults, and constant criticisms directed at his father have gone beyond acceptable political opposition and are now becoming personal and disrespectful.
Expectedly, Seyi’s statement has sparked massive reactions online after speaking passionately at a recent gathering with supporters, during which he praised Nigerians who still believe in the current administration, saying that President Tinubu remains the leader many Nigerians had long prayed for.
Seyi told his supporters; “Thank you for the faith you have in our president, and I guarantee you President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu will not fail Nigeria, the hope we have been looking for and hoping for, is finally here. The president that we have all wanted is here”.
But, in what appeared a veiled response to VDM, Seyi said; “The disrespect you accord my dad, the President, is enough, and I won’t take it any longer. You’ll soon be sued,” he warned.
Seyi however, did not directly state what specific statement or action triggered his outburst, many Nigerians are of the view that his comments are not unconnected to recent criticisms and viral videos made by VeryDarkMan against the Tinubu administration.
VDM has recently become one of the vocal critics of the Tinubu-led administration over rising insecurity, economic hardship, kidnappings, and the sufferings being experienced by many Nigerians as his videos have continued to gain millions of views across social media platforms, especially among frustrated youths.
Seyi’s latest comments and warning have expectedly added more fuel to the already crowded online space, with many supporters of both camps clashing across the social media.
While some Nigerians came out and defended Seyi Tinubu for standing up for his father and the presidency, others argued that criticisms of elected leaders is part of democracy and should not automatically lead to threats of lawsuits, just as some others pointedly said that President Tinubu while he was in the opposition did and said worst things about ruling government then and nobody ever sued him.
Other social media users also questioned the sense in Seyi’s threat of legal action over comments directed at the President and particularly asked the purpose of any legal action against VDM would serve in addressing the dicey issues of insecurity, economic hardship, kidnapping, lack of power supply and insecurity in particular.
