Former Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), and minister of Justice, (AGF), Chief Kanu Agabi, who is the lead defence lawyer in the terrorism trial of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), has denied a report that the Department of State Services (DSS), denied him and members of his team access to their client on Monday, May 12, 2025, in Abuja.

Agabi, who stated this at the resumed hearing in the case on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, while responding to an enquiry by Justice James Omotosho on the veracity of a report attributed to a member of the defence team, Alloy Ejimakor, said none of such happened.

Justice Omotosho had said that Ejimakor posted on one of his social media platforms that the DSS denied the legal team access to the IPOB leader.

Agabi while puncturing what he described as “Ejimakor’s mix-up”, said none of such happened, saying that the DSS officials deserved to be commended for their conduct which have been so respectful and courteous.

In the words of Agabi; “I was not denied access to the defendant. We had arranged to go there with myself, Ikpeazu, Etiaba, Erokoro. But for some reasons, they were not available.

“When I got to the gate around 1pm, they said our name had not arrived. To be fair, they (the DSS officials) showed me enough respect. I said I will come back another date,” he explained.

The former AGF said that he was surprised and angry when he later learnt that a member of his team uploaded a story online that he was denied access to the defendant.

When asked by Justice Omotosho, what informed his decision to post such on his social media platform, Ejimakor said he thought Agabi was angry that he was denied access to Kanu when they spoke on the phone.

At this point, Agabi quickly responded by saying that he got angry because Ejimakor gave him the wrong time for the appointment.
