BY AUSTIN AJAYI, YOLA – The chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adamawa State, Alhaji Ibrahim Bilal, has debunked insinuations that his reelection was made possible owing to his allegiance to the Ahmed Halilu, the younger brother to the First Lady, Mrs. Aisha Buhari.
Bilal is believed to be fronting for the 2023 governorship ambition of Halilu, who is allegedly being propelled and supported by Mrs. Buhari.
The Adamawa APC chairman also denied entering any pact whatsoever with the First Lady, Mrs. Aisha Buhari, saying that there is no such plans to favour the emergence of Ahmed Halilu the younger brother of Mrs. Buhari, popularly known as Modi, as APC gubernatorial candidate for the 2023 governorship polls.
He said that the allegation that he is working for the junior brother of Aisha is baseless, adding that the First Lady as mother to all, had so far remained neutral in the affairs of the party in the state.
Bilal told journalists in Yola at the weekend that he is determine to do everything within his powers to ensure a transparent, free and fair party primaries into all elective offices in the APC ahead of the 2023 general elections.
While thanking APC members for giving him the opportunity to serve again, Bilal said the task before him is to ensure the unity of the party in the state.
He attributed the party’s defeat in the state in 2019 to the internal wrangling which did not work in favour of the party in any way.
Bilal therefore promised to ensure the conduct of a transparent, free and fair primaries in choosing the governorship candidate of the party.
According to him; “The task before me is a herculean one. It is to ensure we reclaim power lost to the PDP in 2019. I pledge, as chairman to ensure the unity of our party.
“I have also promised to ensure the conduct of a transparent, free and fair primaries in choosing the governorship candidate of our party in the next general elections to ensure the party enters the polls united with less acrimony.
“Aisha Buhari is our mother in the state. She is also a staunch APC supporter, so also is the Secretary to the Government of the federation, Boss Mustapha and the Minister of FCT, Mohammed Bello. They are all staying neutral,” he said.
