BY EDMOND ODOK – President Muhammadu Buhari on Sunday morning held a closed-door meeting with the National Leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Reports said the former Lagos State governor arrived at the Presidential Villa around 11 am for the meeting that lasted about one hour.

Though the meeting’s agenda was not made public, insiders hinted that the ruling party’s activities in relation to its forthcoming National convention and zoning of the political offices, especially the presidency for the 2023 elections may have featured prominently in both leaders’ discussions.

However, a competent described the development as Asiwaju Tinubu’s personal ‘Thank You’ visit to the President, who had a few months ago visited him in London when he was receiving medical treatment.

But strong indications about the APC National leader’s 2023 presidential ambition featuring in their discussions emerged following his decision to visit Abuja alone, unlike in the past when he was always accompanied by the pioneer interim chairman of APC and former Governor of Osun State from 1999–2003, Chief Bisi Akande.

An official statement on the visit is still being expected from presidential spokesmen, even as the President was scheduled to leave for the United Kingdom (UK) to participate in the ongoing United Nations (UN) Climate Change Conference (COP26).

According to Villa sources, the President is expected back in Abuja on Friday after a five-day working visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Details still to come…
