Adamawa: Governor Fintiri Floors Binani Again At Election Petition Tribunal
The Adamawa State Governorship Electoral Petitions Tribunal on Saturday, October 28, 2023 dismissed the petition filed by Governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Aishatu Dahiru Binani against Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri.
Senator Binani had filed a petition challenging the victory of Governor Fintiri at the March 18, 2023 governorship election conducted by the Independent National Election Commission (INEC).
The petitioner, Senator Binani, had in her petition in which she joined Governor Fintiri, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), alleged that the election was not conducted in substantial compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Act.
Delivering the judgement of the tribunal, the Chairman of the tribunal, Justice T. O. Uloho, dismissed the petition and affirms the election of Governor Umaru Fintiri.
INEC had on April 18, 2023 following the conduct of a supplementary election, announced Governor Umaru Fintiri as the winner the governorship election.
At the end of the rerun election, Governor Fintiri polled 9,337 votes to beat Senator Aishatu Dahiru Binani of the APC who recorded 6,513 votes which culminated to a total votes cast of 430,861 for Governor Fintiri while Binani polled a total of 398, 788 votes.
