BY UBON EKANEM, CALABAR – The Cross River State chapter of African Democratic Congress (ADC), has accused the crisis-ridden People Democratic Party (PDP) bloc in the State of flaming the embers of political discord and disharmony within their ranks for obvious selfish reasons.
According to the ADC’s leadership, of all the opposition parties that have merged and are still collapsing structures into the emerging main opposition coalition in Nigeria, only the PDP group has refused to realise and appreciate that they are In a completely fresh and different democratic structure that strictly adheres to due process.
ADC’s Director of Policy and Strategy in the State, Dr Macpherlan Ejah said there should be no room for shenanigans within the coalition, stressing that to realistically displace and legitimately take power from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), the ADC must abandon the impunity and misconduct that have been the undoing of most political parties in the recent past.
Dr Ejah, who spoke at a press conference in Calabar, the Cross River capital, explained that the ADC’s membership registration is carried out at the Ward level instead of the alien approach that the PDP group is instigating and trying hard to force down on the entire coalition membership.
He further said it is lamentable that since PDP group entered into the merger arrangement with ADC, their members’ posturing indicates a situation where they believe the ADc structure can be forcefully hijacked by throwing money around, warning that the party is not up for sale to the highest bidder.
Cautioning that if such moves are not effectively checked, ADC may go the same way that PDP went on a self-destruct mission, the Party stalwart said the only recognised ADC leadership structure in the state is the one led by Dr, John Ogar.
He maintained that any attempt to foist any surrogate leadership on the ADC Coalition in the state based on influence and money politics would be strongly opposed by the Party members
Dr Ejah said ADC is robustly positioning itself as the primary opposition vehicle to challenge the APC in the 2027 general elections, stressing that a departure from the underhand manipulation and mischievous behavior of the past” is necessary to gain public trust and confidence.
