The National Organising Secretary of the African Democratic Party (ADC), Chief Chinedu Idigo, has said that following the deliberate attempt bny the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike to deny the party venue for its April 14, 2026 national convention, members of the Party were prepared to occupy the Car park of the minister for the event.

Idigo said there were orchestrated interference and deliberate attempt to prevent the ADC from holding its convention by desperate efforts to disrupt the party’s convention logistics.

He said the Party was determined and resolved to hold the convention ahead of the 2027 general election.

Idigo, who stated these on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, when he featured on Arise Television to address issues arising from the ADC convention, particularly noted the role played by Wike to circumvent the process leading to the and during the hosting of the event.

According to him; “This other place, the Rainbow Event Center, we got it, and as we were setting it up, then suddenly, at about 1:00 a.m., I mean 1 a.m. of same Tuesday, they sent a letter saying that they are cancelling the contract with us”.

Idigo said that at that point, the ADC had no option than to say that we rejected the cancellation, citing prior arrangements already in place.

He said; “We told them that it’s not possible since we had already gone too far with arrangement. We have to go on, because the ‘event planners’ had set up the place, and we were just waiting for the morning of the 14th for us to start the convention.

“They came to cancel it and we asked them where they wanted us to go to? Where do you want us to go?” he said.

Idigo said that the party then considered alternative actions in response to the situation which was to move to the car park of Wike and see what will happen.

“This is our country; nobody should intimidate us or any other person.

“Curiously, all the places we applied for to host the national convention were constructed during the military administration and President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration.

“All other administrations before the APC never denied them access to any of their events” he said.

Idigo expressed joy that despite the attempts to destabilise the ADC national convention, it ultimately proceeded as planned.

In his words; “So, we went ahead, we did our convention peacefully, and it was very successful. I can tell you that, that’s the best convention that has ever happened in Nigeria”.

The National Organising Secretary of the ADC also commented on the broader implications of the situation, stressing that the actions of the government in power disgraced the country.
