- Sheds tears of joy
BY SEGUN ADEBAYO – Osun State Governor-elect, Senator Ademola Adeleke has promised to serve the people of Osun State in a different style, dedicating the victory at the poll to his late brother, Isiaka Adeleke and the people of the State.
This is as he shed tears of joy moment after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared him the winner on Sunday.
Adeleke, who was announced the winner on Sunday morning by INEC’s returning officer, Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe defeated the incumbent Governor Adegboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress(APC) with 403,371 to 375,027 votes.
In his acceptance speech, Senator Adeleke praised the Osun people for staying committed and determined to ensure their votes counted.
He also appreciated their impressive turnout and overwhelming support given to him and the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State.
The signed statement by him said; “I commend men and women of goodwill, the young and the old. I am overwhelmed by your love and support. Our state has turned a new page. We have launched a landmark path for the progress and prosperity of our people.
“It is therefore with a strong faith in God and trust in our people that I accept my election as the Governor of Osun state. I pledge my total commitment to the best interest of the state and her people.
“I dedicate this victory to my Late Brother, H.E Sen Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke and every indigene of Osun State, and to all my supporters and friends. Thanks and God bless,” he concluded.
Meanwhile, in a video that has gone viral, the Governor-elect is seen sitting with his siblings Deji Adeleke, Dupe Adeleke, and Edo and Bayelsa Governors Godwin Obaseki, and Douye Diri in the midst of supporters in his residence.
As soon as INEC announced him the winner of the poll, Adeleke stood up and prostrated for his elder brother who thereafter hugged him and they held their head closer to each other.
A few seconds later, he burst into uncontrollable tears with his brother, Deji consoling him while one of the aides called for a handkerchief for the Governor-elect.
Adeleke joined politics in 2017 shortly after the death of his brother, Senator Isiaka Adeleke who was the first civilian governor of Osun State.
