Africa Acquires 59.9m COVID-19 Vaccines
Total cases – 5,108,890; Deaths – 136,030; Recoveries – 4,558,435
The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) says African countries have so far acquired around 59.9 million COVID-19 vaccines to tackle the dreaded virus spread in the continent.
Africa CDC, which is the specialised healthcare agency of the African Union (AU), said around 0.79 per cent of Africa’s population has received a full vaccine regimen.
According to the statistics, five countries, Morocco, Egypt, Nigeria, Ethiopia and South Africa, have acquired and administered the most doses of the vaccines to their respective populations.
Official reports from the Agency indicated that as of Thursday, June 17, 2021, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Africa had reached 5,108,890, with 136,030 deaths and 4,558,435 recoveries.
The Africa CDC however disclosed that South Africa, Morocco, Tunisia, Ethiopia and Egypt are the countries with the highest number of COVID-19 cases in the continent.
