AGF Backs ICAN On Integrity, Core Values Of Accounting Concepts
BY COBHAM NSA – The Accountant General of the Federation (AGF), Dr. Oluwatoyin Sakirat Madein says robust partnership with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) will promote integrity, transparency and zero tolerance for corruption in both the Private and Public Sectors.
Accordingly, she assured the Institute that efforts would not be spared to continuously advance professional accounting concepts within the nation’s financial system.
Madein, who spoke when the 60th President of ICAN, Dr Davidson C. S. Alaribe and his team visited her in Abuja, said the Office of Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF) has over the years played key roles in enhancing the Accounting profession and upholding tenets, noting that about 70 percent of its current workforce are Accountants.
She expressed her office’s resolve sustain its collaboration with ICAN to foster robust and transparent accounting concepts since the mandates of ICAN and OAGF are common in status.

OAGF, quoted the AGF as pledging thus; “I will maintain integrity, ethics and core values of the Accounting profession as well as to welcome all criticisms and recognition in the accounting practices”.
Earlier in his remarks, the President of ICAN, Dr Davidson C.S Alaribe, said the courtesy visit was to appreciate the AGF, her motherly role and the support extended to ICAN during its last Conference.
While acknowledging the pivotal role played the AGF in shaping the accounting profession, particularly the reactivation of Federal Treasury Academy (FTA) in Orozo, Abuja, Dr Alaribe said the efforts and plans being put in place are worthy of commendation.
Also, he disclosed that ICAN has continued to assist to Accountants with the sum of Five Hundred Thousand Naira (N500,000) only as scholarship to those ready to pursue the Accounting profession to PhD Level
