Ahead Of PDP NEC: North Central Endorse Suswam For National Chairmanship Position
Ahead of the Thursday, April 18, 2024 National Executive Committee meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), some leaders of the party in the North Central geo-political zone region, have endorsed former governor of Benue State, Senator Gabriel Suswam for the position of national chairman of the opposition Party.
The leaders on the aegis of ‘Platform of North Central PDP Stakeholders Forum’ announced the endorsement of Suswam on Monday night at the end of their meeting which took place at Ibeto Grand Hotel, Abuja.
Suswam, however did not attend the meeting where he was endorsed.
The Stakeholders’ meeting which was attended by prominent political leaders and stakeholders that included former and serving members of the State and National Assembly, former ministers, appointees and party leaders, women, youths, and observers from the zone expressed the desire for the need for the Party to allow the zone complete the tenure of the suspended National Chairman of the PDP, Dr Iyorchia Ayu.
The position of the North Central Stakeholders was confirmed on Tuesday by the former National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Mr Kola Ologbondiyan, when he featured on Arise Television programme, saying that the zone wants to complete its tenure following the suspension of Dr Iyorchia Ayu, adding that the PDP does not have to wait for court litigation even as he quickly added that based on available information at his disposal, he does not think that Dr Ayu is in court.
Speaking at the meeting, the former senator representing Benue North West, Senator Emmanuel Yisa Orker-Jev said that in line with the constitution of the party, it was only right to return the position of the National Chairman to Benue State.
Orker-Jev noted that the chairmanship position currently subsists in Benue after what he described as “the unfortunate suspension” of the National Chairman Dr Iyorchia Ayu about a year ago.
Similarly, former minister from Plateau State, Chief Damishi Sango said the time has come for the genuine members of the PDP to correct the mistakes of the past by throwing their weight behind Senator Suswam.
Sango expressed confidence in the ability and capacity of Suswam to pilot the affairs of the Party, stressing that with Suswam as National Chairman, the PDP will be revived in no distance time.
Other stakeholders that spoke along the same line from the six states and the FCT that make up the North Central zone, unanimously said that the endorsement of the former governor of Benue State, Suswam with a political appeal that cut across different strata was a wise decision.
Following the unanimous endorsement, Senator Orker-Jev moved a motion for the endorsement of Senator Suswam as the sole candidate of the North Central zone for the position of the National Chairman of the PDP and was seconded by ten others.
The convener of the group, a former Benue Governorship aspirant and business mogul, Dr Paul Ubwa, during his vote of thanks, noted that Suswam is not only known to the PDP but most politicians in the country.
