Akpabio Tasks Govs On Good Governance, Sacrificial Service
BY UBON EKANEM, CALABAR – President of the Nigerian Senate, Godswill Akpabio has challenged the 36 State governors to redouble efforts at achieving good governance and uplifting the people in line with the bold economic initiatives of President Bola Tinubu-led administration.
However, he maintained that the best way to get Nigerians out of the present economic hardship is for leaders at all levels to demonstrate unwavering commitment to good governance and effect implementation of people-oriented programmes.
Senator Akpabio said as an apostle of good governance, State governors must sacrifice personal comfort to provide untainted and selfless services for the overall benefits of their people.
The Senate President, who was in Calabar, the Cross River State capital, for the Thanksgiving and Child Dedication ceremony of Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong, commended the lawmaker for his tremendous strides in politics.
According to him, Senator Ekpenyong has, at a very young age of 39, demonstrated proven leadership qualities, indicating that our youths are getting set and ready for leadership roles in the country.
Accompanied by an array of lawmakers and other dignitaries led by Deputy Senate President, Sen Barau Jibrin, Sen Adams Oshiomhole, Ministers and captains of industries, the former Akwa Ibom Governor charged the celebrant to ensure that as the Chairman of Senate Committee on Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) viable projects are attracted to the State to compliment the State government’s efforts in turning around the fortunes of Cross River for good.
In his remarks, Senator Ekpenyong, representing Cross River South in the 10th National Assembly (NASS), thanked God Almighty for the extraordinary favour upon his life and family over the years.
The lawmaker, who also used the occasion for the infant baptism of his last child, Anam Asuquo Ekpenyong, pledged that the opportunity offered him by his constituents as a National Assembly member would be properly utilized to positively impact their lives as well as the overall well-being of Cross River State.
