Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia has taken the bold step towards restructuring of the State civil service for an enhanced service delivery.
Towards this end, Governor Alia has inaugurated a committee to restructure the mandates and supervision of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in the Benue State Civil Service.
Governor Alia while inaugurating the committee at the Government House, Makurdi, said that the move is part of his administration’s efforts towards restoring efficiency and improve service delivery in the system.
He therefore tasked the committee to review the mandates of existing MDAs, including ministries, bureaus, commissions and government-owned companies, and recommend appropriate alignments for effective supervision.
The Committee headed by the Deputy Governor, Mr. Sam Ode, was mandated to critically examine the roles of political appointees such as Special Advisers and Assistants, identify and address overlapping functions within the system.
The Governor said; “This is a very serious assignment and I urge you to take it very seriously. This idea is aimed at restoring standard operational procedures, strengthening institutional values, and enhancing the quality of personnel for optimal performance in the civil service”.
Alia described the assignment as a call to service and assured members of the committee of the government’s support.
Responding on behalf of the members, Mr. Bernard Hom, SAN, appreciated the confidence reposed in them and pledged to carry out the assignment with diligence.
A statement by Sir Tersoo Kula, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Benue State, stated that the committee which comprises distinguished indigenes of the state, is expected to submit its report to the government within two months for consideration.
