A frantic overnight manhunt has ended in triumph for operatives in Delta State Police Command as they successfully tracked down and rescued a woman abducted by gunmen.
Reports said the victim was driving into her compound along Eko-Amukpe Road in Sapele when armed men suddenly ambushed her.
According to security reports, the hoodlums released sporadic gunshots into the air to terrify witnesses before whisking away the helpless woman into the surrounding forest.
However, under intense pressure from a relentless, night-long dragnet launched by the Sapele Divisional Police and local vigilantes, the kidnappers panicked and ultimately abandoned their victim before fleeing under the cover of darkness.
The Commnand’s spokesperson, Bright Edafe, said the operatives of the Sapele Division received a distress call that a woman had been ambushed by armed men at the entrance of her residence along Eko Amukpe Road while attempting to drive into her compound.
He said the suspects fired sporadic shots into the air before dragging their victim into a nearby bush, adding that upon receipt of the report, the operatives immediately mobilised patrol and surveillance teams to the scene, where expended AK-47 ammunition shells were recovered.
Disclosing that the Police, in collaboration with local vigilantes, commenced bush combing aimed at rescuing the victim, the Command Spokesperson said the kidnappers abandoned their captive and fled following sustained pressure mounted on them by the operatives.
Edafe said the woman was rescued unharmed and had since reunited with her family while efforts are still on to track down and arrest the fleeing criminal gangsters.
