All Set For National Day of Mourning and Remembrance Tomorrow
Organisers of the National Day For Mourning and Remembrance event slated to hold tomorrow May 28, 2018 have completed preparations to observe the exercise across the various states of the Federation and some foreign embassies.
According to the organizers, “We call on all Nigerians to observe Monday May 28 as our National Day of Mourning and Remembrance for all victims of violent killings across Nigeria.”
Participants, according to the organizers, are requested to “wear black, or wear a black hand band as a sign of your solidarity with every family that has been bereaved from these senseless killings.”
Besides calling on Nigerians to fly all flags at half-mast and join in making the event a successful one by joining and organising a solemn assembly, the organizers of the event advised participants to “stop all commercial activities for 5 minutes between 12noon and 12.05pm”
Those wishing to join the event are also called upon to “observe a minute silence at noon in a group, in front of your office, or at a solemn assembly. Nigerians in the Diaspora should gather before the Nigerian Embassy closest to them from 11am for a solemn assembly.”
Members of the peaceful assembly are also urged to “call out the names of every victim you know. Pray for their families and for the repose of their souls.”
Meanwhile organizers of the event have called for adoption of the social media with hashtags: #NigeriaMourns #WeAreAllWeHave #WeCannotLookAway #OneDeathTooMany
For updates on the event, interested Nigerians are encouraged to follow @nigeriamourns on twitter and like Nigeria Mourns on Facebook and Instagram. Additional information on the solemn assembly can be obtained on: www.nigeriamourns.org
