Kidnappers Invade FCT Village, Abduct 29 Persons

It is not the best of times for inhabitants of Yewuti village in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) as kidnappers on Tuesday abducted 29 persons in the area.

According to reports, those abducted in the area, which is the  hometown of the immediate past Vice Chairman of Kwali Area Council, Alhaji Zubairu Jibrin Yewuti, include male adults, housewives and children.

It was also reliably gathered that two housewives, Mrs Zainab Umar and Mrs Aisha Zubairu, escaped from their abductors while the victims were being led into the bush by the criminal elements

Listed among the community members ferried away by the kidnappers are Idris Mohammed, Abdullahi Zubairu, Sani S. Magani, Peter Modu, Sumaiya Ibrahim, Muktari Yunusa and Mohammed Yeluwa, Rahmat Shagari, Ibrahim Mamman, Yellow Abdulrasheed, Musa Suleiman, Simbiya Ishaku and Maimuna Muhammad.

Other victims include Sumaiya Abubakar Yelwa, Lukman Aliyu, Rahina Audu, Abdulrazak Usman, Sadiya Usman, Darius Samuel, Mohammed Yelwa, Hussaini Ya Nda Agyana, Hamza Ibrahim, Lantana Yunusa, Nabila Agyana, Nafisa Aminu, Kasimu Adamu, Abdulyakin Aliyu, Rufai Salihu, Japheth Osu and Abako Adamu

Recounting their horrible experience, one Yewuti resident, Shuaibu Ndako, who claimed to have narrowly escaped through the ceiling, said the incident happened around 1am on Tuesday when the kidnappers, in their large numbers, invaded the community.

He said the kidnapping gang divided themselves into groups and went to about eight houses within the Community shooting sporadically into the air.

Ndako, who disclosed that the abductors whisked away many residents, including children and housewives, into the bush, said; “It is God that saved me. When I first heard banging on my door, I quietly peeped through the window and saw that they were kidnappers. So I climbed into the ceiling and hid there.”

He said two children and two women were abducted from his house before the kidnappers proceeded to the next house after forcing the door open to take away more victims.

In his reaction to the unfortunate incident, the immediate past Vice Chairman of the council, Alhaji Zubairu Jibrin Yewuti, said his younger brother, Idris and two of his elder brothers’ wives and a child were kidnapped in his family’s residence.

He said the kidnappers, who operated from 1am till 3am, invaded over eight houses and took away 29 residents, including men, women, and children.

Also confirming the ugly incident, a distressed Etsu Abawa of Yewuti, Alhaji Isyaku Yakubu Yewuti, lamented that 29 of his subjects were abducted, adding that two people who sustained bullet wounds were taken to a private hospital in Kwali for treatment.

The Royal Father, who stated that the whole community was terrified by sporadic gunshots during the kidnappers’ operations, appealed to relevant security agencies to come to their aid in rescuing the victims from the kidnappers’ den.

For now, relatives and family members of the victims from neighbouring Awawa village, Abaji town, and Wako community have been visiting the area to sympathise with their kits and kins.

Meanwhile, a combined team of Local hunters, vigilantes, and the Police has already swung into action, as the personnel were seen deploying three Hilux vans to comb the surrounding bushes in the community.

As of the time of filing this report, there was no official statement on the kidnapping incident from the FCT Police Command as reporters were still waiting to hear from the Command’s Spokesperson, DSP Adeh Josephine. – With additional Daily Trust reports
