Alleged Blasphemy: Another Christian Woman Narrowly Escapes Death In Bauchi
BY ADEYEMI AKANJI, BAUCHI – Barely one week after the gruesome murder of Deborah Yakubu Emmanuel in Sokoto for alleged blasphemy against Prophet Muhammad, another Christian woman on Friday evening, narrowly escaped jungle justice which would have led to her untimely death in Katanga, the headquarters of Warji Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
It was gathered that the woman who is a health worker allegedly posted an offensive video on the WhatsApp platform of her office considered to be offensive to Islam thereby incurring the wrath of the Muslim community.
Reports from the area indicated that Muslim youths mounted a serious search for the woman, a mother of four children immediately after the Jummaat prayers but could not locate her as she took to her heels having gotten wind of the impending danger as she was whisked away to safety.
Disturbed by not finding her to face instant punishment by death, the irate Muslim youths started destroying properties belonging to Christians in area by setting some buildings ablaze.
It was also gathered that in the process some Christians including a Pastor of ECWA Church were injured.
One of the leaders of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), in the state confirmed the situation to our Correspondent, adding that he called the Commissioner of Police to intimate him as well as the SSA to the Governor of Bauchi State on Christian Religious Affairs.
He however called on the Christian community in the state not to allow the situation to degenerate even though they have to protect themselves from the attackers.
The CAN leader also assured that security operatives will do everything possible to protect and safeguard lives and properties of the people
Efforts to get confirmation of the situation from the State Police Command failed as the PPRO, SP Ahmed Wakili did not answer calls put through to his GSM telephone number nor returned the calls.
It was however gathered that security operatives have already been drafted to the area to keep the peace and ensure that the situation did not degenerate while the youths have been dispersed
