Alleged Defamation: Police Takeover FCT High Court Premises Ahead Of Natasha’s Arraignment

Ahead of Thursday’s arraignment of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan over alleged defamation, the Nigeria Police Force drafted its stern looking and combat ready personnel to ytake over the premises and security arrangements at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory.

Numbering over 200 and fully armed, the police personnel were stationed in in strategic locations both outside and within the court premises.

It was gathered that they were deployed to the court to ward off possible threats to peace before, during, and after the arraignment of Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan.

As early as 8:00am, supporters of immediate past governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello had filled the courtroom waiting for the arraignment of Akpoti-Uduaghan that was slated for 11:00 a.m.

Similarly, supporters of Akpoti-Uduaghan led by former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili, and some human rights activists also arrived the court.

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan was billed for arraignment in court on a 3-count charge of defamation brought against her by the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice on allegation of defamation of Godswill Akpabio, President of the Senate and Yahaya Bello, former governor of Kogi State.
