BY EDMOND ODOK – In what political observers hint as heightened home-front diplomacy following United States President, Donald Trump’s designation of Nigeria as a ‘country of particular concern’, President Bola Tinubu on Friday met with the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Muhammad Sa’adu Abubakar, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Presidential insiders said the meeting held in the first-floor office of Mr President is part of ongoing nationwide wide consultations to ease tension in the country.

With the United States description of Nigeria as a country of religious persecution and human rights abuses, President Tinubu has in recent days engaged many religious and traditional leaders to assure them on the security of lives and property

Reports indicated that Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Tajudeen Abbas, accompanied the Sultan to what competent sources described as a ‘very crucial’ meeting.

Earlier in the week, President Tinubu had met with the Catholic Archbishop of Abuja, Bishop Ignatius Ayau Kaigama with the sources claiming that more meetings are still coming on the way.

The sources hinted that the development is part of the President Tinubu-led administration’s efforts to assuage frayed nerves and assure the international community that there is no genocide taking place anywhere in Nigeria against Christians.
