Alleged ‘Gross Incompetence’ Cost Gen Fadah NYSC Job
BY EDMOND ODOK – For alleged ‘gross incompetence’, President Muhammadu Buhari has sacked Brigadier-General Muhammad Kukah Fadah, as the Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) less than six months after his assumption of office at the organization.
Though no official reasons have been given for the President’s action, sources at the Presidency hinted that the order for Fadah to vacate his position immediately may not be unconnected with what sources claimed as “official ineptitude and dereliction of duty.”
According to the source, in the six months of piloting affairs at the NYSC, the Army General was allegedly found wanting in the discharge of his official assignments with numerous complaints coming from some of the top management staff and workers of the scheme.
It was also gathered that the relationship between Fadah and the supervising Ministry of Youth and Sports Development has been anything but cordial with the source describing his removal as the best thing to happen to NYSC in recent times.
Insisting that Fadah’s headship of the scheme is the worst ever in the NYSC history, another insider said; “How will you justify a situation where a whole Director General will sit down on the bare floor inside the elevator with his uniform? He would move around the office complex in slippers.”
Offering further insights into happenings during Fadah’s short tenure, the sources said; “The most painful of all was what has become a habit of sleeping inside the Mosque with his uniform and making the scheme a mockery among staff and outsiders.
“He was watching helplessly as the Scheme went on a free fall and the unfortunate development heightened insinuations that the appointment apparently overwhelmed him and he was not just competent to handle the national assignment entrusted in his care”.
Reports indicated that the most senior civil servant in the Agency has been directed to take over from the sacked NYSC Chief Executive and will act in the interim until a substantive Director General is appointed by the President.
Fadah was appointed on Wednesday, 18th May 2022, as the 19th Director General of the scheme to replace Major General Ibrahim Shuaibu.
