Alleged Suicide: Female Teenager Found Dangling On A Tree In Gombe
BY ADEYEMI AKANJI, BAUCHI – A 16year old girl, who was simply identified as Maryam Samuel, has allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself in Kalarin area of Kaltungo, the headquarters of Kaltungo Local Government Area of Gombe State.
The lifeless body of the girl was discovered hanging on a branch of a tree in Kaltungo in the early hours of Friday when some passersby sighted a dangling object on a tree from afar which attracted attention that made people to go closer and discovered what had happened.
Forefront News gathered that shortly after confirming that the dangling object was a lifeless body a young girl, the eye witness quickly raised alarm which attracted the attention of the residents who rushed to the scene and were left in utter shock and disbelieve.
The discovery of the lifeless body of the teenage girl has sparked speculations in Kaltungo over the possible circumstances that may have prompted the action of the lady which led to her death.
While some residents believed she must have committed suicide, others were of the opinion that she might have been killed by hoodlums and then hung on the tree to destroy any trace or evidence.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Gombe State Command, Buhari Abdullahi confirmed the incident and promised to provide further details even as he described the incident as a case of possible suicide act.
Abdullahi further described the development as an “unfortunate incident of suicide,” adding that on Friday, March 14, 2025, at about 0900hrs, a case of suicide was reported at the Kaltingo Divisional Headquarters by the village head of Kalarin.
Abdullahi said; “A lady who was later identified as Maryam Samuel, 16 years old from Kalarin ward was seen hung with rope on a tree at Kalarin mountain, without any marks of violence found on her body.
“However, the lifeless body was removed to General Hospital, Kaltingo and the family members were invited and the investigation revealed that, the deceased left home on 13/03/2025 to go and fetch fire wood from the nearby bush,” he said.
The spokesperson of the Gombe State police command, however assured that investigation would ascertain the root cause of the incident.
