…Judge asks him to consult law experts for advice

The leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu on Monday, October 27, 2025, abandoned his earlier plan to call witnesses in his defence in his ongoing trial for alleged terrorism offences preferred against by the Department of State Services (DSS).

The court presided over by Justice James Omotosho, had on October 24, 2025 adjourned till October 27, to enable the defendant, Kanu, who had written the Court indicating his intention to call witnesses and applied for witness summons to open his defence.

But, when the case was called on Monday, Kanu said he has gone through the case-file and realised that there is no valid charge against him, stressing that since he is convinced that there was no valid charge against him, but only subjected to unlawful trial, there would no be need for him to conduct any defence.

At this point, the trial judge, Justice Omotosho asked him to file a written address to that effect and serve the prosecution and also advised him to consult experts in criminal law on the consequences of the option he has chosen.

Accordingly, the judge adjourned till November 4th, 5th and 6th, 2025 for the adoption of the final written addresses based on Kanu’s premise that the evidence so far and the charge have not established any case against him or for the defendant to enter his defence.
