Anambra 2017: Nnoli Picks NUP Governorship Ticket

BY RAPHAEL ONYEKACHUKWU, AWKA – The National Unity Party (NUP) has elected Sir Nnoli Amechi Justine as its flag-bearer for the November 18, 2017 Anambra State governorship election.

In the primaries held at at the New Jerusalem Hotel, Awka, Sir Nnoli polled 39 votes to beat two other contestants, Chief Ifeanyi Egwonwn and Chief Fidelis Ofodile, who scored 12 and five votes respectively to place a distant second and third in the race.

Declaring the elections results in the presence of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials, Chairman of the Party’s primary election, Chief Henry Igwe said a total of 81 delegates were accredited, with 56 votes correctly entered while 25 recorded as void votes.

He said having scored the highest votes cast and also fulfilled the constitutional provisions of the NUP, Chief Amechi is declared the winner and Party’s flag-bearer for the November 18, governorship election in Anambra state.

Chief Igwe praised the efforts of all contestants and urged them to embrace the winner and work towards changing the government of Anambra state come November 18, 2017.

He also urged Sir Nnoli to effectively engage party members and Anambra citizens in general as he carries the Party’s flag for a better Anambra state.

In his acceptance speech, Sir Nnoli thanked the party for their support and considering him worthy to fly NUP’s flag in the November 18 gubernatorial polls.

He commended his co-aspirants for putting up a great contest even as he promised to drive the NUP manifesto as his Bible.

Chief Nnoli also assured the Party’s supporters and the good people of Anambra state that when elected to the State House, he will provide affordable and quality educational system; improved healthcare delivery system; workers welfare; create employment opportunities for youths and revitalize ailing industries. 

According to him, NUP administration in the State will drive all-inclusive governance for women and youths, so November 18 presents a great opportunity for the good people of Anambra state to give him and NUP the needed backing to offer good governance to them.

Condemning the politics of godfatherism, Sir Nnoli said that has sadly been the bane of under-development in Anambra State, adding that with no godfather to breadth down his neck to corner and share the state resources among a selfish few, the Anambra people will stand to benefit great with God as his mentor and provider.
