Anambra Guber Race: Old Aguata Youths Tackle Gov Obiano
- Warns elders, leaders against treachery –
With the battle for the November 18, 2017 Anambra State governorship elections heating up, youths of Old Aguata Union (OAU) in the State said any attempt by political leaders and elders in Aguata Local Government Area to betray the people will be strongly resisted
They warned of dire consequences for anyone that mortgages the Zone’s interest to occupy the Anambra State Government House come November 18, 2017.
Stating the youths’ position in Awka, the Anambra State capital, a youth leader from Ezira in Orumba North Local Government Area of the state, Comrade Emmanuel Agu said all elders and leaders in the zone must shun pecuniary interests and work for the overall good of the people.
Agu, who warned that they are tired of recurring sell-out by some individuals and groups, said at an earlier stakeholders’ meeting, the youths had demanded why the zone should settle for anything less or support the second term bid of the incumbent Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, who many accused of performing below expectation.
News Express reported that Agu decried the age-long imposition of candidates on the Old Aguata people without seeking their consent, adding that the youths will no longer continue in the ignorance of some elders and leaders in the union who always settle for monetary gains to truncate the collective interest of the people.
According to Agu, who insisted that the youths “are tired of being relegated to the deputy position”, they are unhappy that rather than supporting a candidate like Mr. Godwin Ezeemo, who is from the zone, the elders and some leaders are currently working to endorse other individuals totally “incapable of delivering quality dividends of democracy to the people.”
Another youth leader, Ugochukwu Onyenzoue was quick to condemn the alleged imposition of candidates on the people, saying: “Our people’s consent was not sort only for some elders to orchestrate plans aimed at imposing a particular candidate on them.”
He noted that since the advent of democratic rule in Nigeria, Old Aguata has only been privileged to deputise in government always, stressing that majority of Old Aguata youths see in Ezeemo a great opportunity to break the long-standing second fiddle jinx.
Threatening to hold their elders and political leaders responsible should the opportunity of occupying the State number seat elude the zone, Onyenzoue said; “We must stand with our own that is the spirit of Old Aguata Union.”
Also, a youth from Uga area of the zone, Mr Kelechi Ifejieme urged members of the 45 communities that constitute the Old Aguata Union to stand up for their son in the forth-coming governorship poll.
He said the so-called unanimous decision of the Union’s stakeholders at Amaokpala in Orumba North Local Government Area is false, noting that the majority of the people were not represented at the forum.
He called on the traditional rulers and President Generals of the zone, both past and present to show solidarity with their son, saying that; “Other zones are doing it, queuing behind their son, so ours should not be different. Let’s follow the footsteps of our ancestors by keeping to their goal of standing and watching each other’s back, Ezeemo is our choice, let’s give him home front support.”
The youths, who are not happy with some individuals in the zone that have thrown their behind Governor Willie Obiano’s second term bid, said it is important for members of the zone to close ranks in pursuit of their overall political interests.
