- Sweeps clean Police premises in Abuja
BY OUR CORRESPONDENT – The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has launched a strategic offensive against internal corruption, with the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Monitoring Unit making high-profile arrests of officers and Point-of-Sale (POS) accomplices involved in illicit financial activities at various stations within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Consequently, the Police hierarchy has placed a blanket ban on POS operations within police facilities as part of efforts to uphold integrity and accountability within the Force
Competent Police sources disclosed that the sting operation across the nation’s capital is part of broader internal reforms aimed at restoring public trust and eliminating unethical practices within the Force.
According to the sources, this initiative aligns with the zero-tolerance stance on corruption championed by the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu.
It was reliably gathered that through the Monitoring Unit, led by Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Aliyu Abubakar, surveillance and enforcement have been intensified to ensure compliance with professional standards by officers and men of the Force.
Insiders hinted that an undercover operation smashed a corruption ring and caught some officers extorting citizens through unauthorized transactions in collaboration with corrupt POS operators.
This is as the insiders confirmed that Police authorities have assured the crackdown will be sustained nationwide, with strict disciplinary measures awaiting officers found culpable.
Additionally, measures are being put in place to ensure supervisors at various Divisional Police Offices (DPOs) are expected to account for any lapses under their command with the ban on POS operations now fully in force.
