In its determination to inculcate discipline within its members, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at its national convention in Abuja, wielded the big stick by announcing the expulsion of its former National Vice Chairman-Northeast, Nafiu Bala Gombe for anti-party activities.

Delegates that attended the ADC national convention unanimously voted in support for the expulsion of Nafiu Bala, whom they accused of engaging in activities aimed at destabilising the party ably led by the former President of the Senate, David Mark.

The ADC leadership catalogued the alleged offences of Bala to include undermining the leadership of the party, making himself available to be used by external forces to destabilise the party, refusal to submit to the leadership of the party and externalising internal affairs of the ADC and attempts to induce other members of the party to join his clique of destabilisation.

A statement by the ADC specifically described Bala’s conduct as “inimical to the unity and progress” of the party.

The David Mark-led ADC was taken to court by Bala, who is believed to have been sponsored by the presidency and the All Progressives Congress (APC) claiming legitimacy over the party’s structure.

The expulsion of Bala from the party is the latest move by the ADC to consolidate control ahead of upcoming electoral cycles.

A statement issued shortly after the convention by Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, National Secretary of the ADC, stated that “Nafiu Bala has ceased to be a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) with immediate effect”.

The statement explained that his expulsion followed clear violations of the provisions of the ADC’s constitution and acts prejudicial to the interests of the party.
